Yes, we’re open – vet are essential services. But not everything is essential during lockdown
We’re doing our best to keep things as normal as possible during each lockdown but given that there are nearby exposure sites, we’re asking you to consider delaying any ‘non-essential’ visits to Albert Park Vet.
Please don’t be offended if we ask you to postpone or reschedule some bookings.
WHAT ARE CONSIDERED ESSENTIAL SERVICES?
When it comes to providing veterinary care, it's always difficult to make hard and fast rules. Each pet's (and family's) needs are considered individually.
The Victorian Vet Board has suggested that critical veterinary services include:
providing care for animals in pain
managing conditions that require constant or ongoing treatment to prevent deterioration in wellbeing
seeing animals that are at risk of serious health/wellbeing consequences if they are not examined and treated in a timely manner
treating animals with or at risk of conditions or diseases that pose public health risks offering consultations and surgeries (including dental treatment) where pain, suffering or significant deterioration is considered likely without immediate or timely treatment
performing diagnostic procedures required to assess the need, type and urgency of treatment
continuing treatment programs such as chronic disease management, chemotherapy and initial vaccination course in at-risk patients
supplying continuous parasite prevention, ongoing medications and food
euthanasia
WHAT’S CONSIDERED NON-ESSENTIAL?
Again, each pet's (and family's) needs are considered individually, but the Victorian Vet Board has considered the following procedures could be postponed:
adult vaccination boosters, unless there is a high risk of disease to animals or people
routine wellness checks. dental checks and blood tests
desexing surgeries. except in cases of illness or high risk of illness
pre-purchase examinations
grooming and nail trims
boarding
We will continue to send out reminders when things are due, but (depending on your situation) please just file these for when we get to the other side.
